Finish reading about my writing journey: As I said in the beginning, I am currently in isolation most of the time. Up until Covid-19, I worked in nursing homes and other facilities as a dance teacher and entertainer having lots of fun with residents from all walks of life. It was a special time in my life and I will always miss the residents.

Today I am enjoying the art of writing, teaching line dance classes and coaching people into a spiritual healthy life.

My earliest memory of writing was sinking back into my pillows pretending to type with an old black typewriter for a book report for grade school. I loved book reports but I hardly ever read a book all the way through. I was always too inspired to write. I had more control over writing – my dyslexia did not interfere as much with writing words as it did with reading them.

I became known for not reading books in college. One of my professors would often write on the top of my assignments – “great paper too bad you did not read the book.”

Mr. Cleveland Kurtz was the first person to notice my talent for writing. He inspired me and my ego when he challenged me to write an extra paper so I could pass one of his classes I had failed. I was failing my first year of college miserably. Unbeknownst to him, I was shaking in my boots when my badass ego took the offer. I was not sure I could write another story worth reading.

He loved the paper and four years later I went on to graduate from the University of Rhode Island/College of Continuing Education with a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Journalism.  During that time, my writing became important to me for two reasons. I absolutely loved to write and I began to write to help me process and heal my personal life.

You see, college was part of the plan for making something out of my life.  And to really succeed I had to heal myself from the mistakes of the past.  So I started writing letters to God so I could understand my life and me.

As it turned out, I wrote an article about my experience in writing those Dear God letters, and that article was published in the adult continuing education newsletter.

With lots of practice writing I found the undeniable connection to my inner voice.  Many times I write without thinking.  Sometimes I write without knowing.  And there are times I surprise myself.  This is how I like to describe it to people.

When people gave compliments to Judy Garland for her magnificent singing voice she never took credit for her talent.  She called it a gift from heaven.

I am truly blessed to have the same gift but only in writing.  And while I do believe that some of my writing ability is from years of writing as a discipline, I fully believe that writing is part of my journey for being on earth – my ability to write effortlessly comes from a source greater than me – it is my spiritual gift straight from heaven. 

The last few years I have been writing a lot of poems and working on my books and I found many times I have a spiritual and psychic connection to many of my subjects and their stories. Even the ones I create. And over and over again, people have encouraged me to write professionally.  Here is one of my favorite inspirations.
