The Universe Really Does Keep Score

Last year, I hired a well-known heating contractor to install a sump pump. Two workers came to my house – the contractor’s son and a person who worked for them. In the end, they not only did their job incorrectly, but the exchange of conversation because of this turned out to be a very bad experience for all of us.  In fact, it was so bad I wondered to myself why I even attracted people who were so rude.  Until today!

Today, about three months after this encounter, I had an appointment with one of my doctors and while talking about the cold weather, I simply asked him who he used for a heating contractor.  Doc lives in the same neighborhood as I do and as it turns out he mentioned the same heating contractor.  He also mentioned he has never used this guy before but planned on it, if and when he needed him.

Of course, because of my bad experience, I told him what happened.  Doc replied with these words.  It’s funny.  When people treat other people badly, it always comes right back to them.  People get back what they put out into the world - good or bad.

On my way home, I had some thoughts.  Karma is a bitch, as Karen would really say and then I thought the moral of this story is pretty simple. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and when you encounter someone who does not have the same values as you, know it is your right to find someone who does. No one deserves to be treated badly for any reason.

I am very positive this heating contractor will never get to work for one of the best doctors in the world. The people in this company do not have any of the same values as Doc.  And because I treated those workers with respect, even though they treated me badly, the universe showed me how it really does keep the score, especially where bad behavior is concerned. What does the spiritual Karen say about this? Never worry about any bad experience others may cause you in your life because it will return to that person, maybe when they least expect it!
