Dads Are Hard To Choose

Written especially for Gunner and his Dad

To My Dad

Dads are so hard to choose

They come in so many shapes

And lots of different sizes

But all of them are super strong

I knew when I saw you

From the clouds up above

That you were everything I wanted

And you would love me for the rest of my life

You were strong but sensitive

Serious but one of a kind silly

Loveable but not too mushy

And I knew you could teach me the ropes

I knew that family was important to you

And I saw right away that you knew how to love

Then, I took another look inside of your heart

And I knew - you had more love than you needed

Most of all, I knew you loved mom

With all of your heart

The way a mom likes to be loved

And I knew you would love me with all of the leftovers

I also knew you loved my mom just as much as I did

And no matter what, you would always see

That we had everything a mom and a kid needs

And everything a mom and a kid desires – within reason

I knew right from the start that you would be my hero

And that you were Mom’s hero too

And not because you are some kind of superman

But because the hero inside of you

Would belong exclusively to us

I knew Mom loved you every minute

And I knew I could love you every second

And I was so glad that I found you

I could not wait to shake your hand

Please don’t ever forget

Mom and I love you when we are apart

And we love you when we are together
